A fabrication and finishing technique in which a design, logo, or pattern is pressed into a material to create a raised or recessed three-dimensional surface. Embossing is used in exhibit and branded environment work on metal panels, leather surfaces, paper goods, and signage elements to add tactile detail and visual depth. When the design is pressed inward rather than raised, the process is referred to as debossing.
