The Constraints

Designing a 30x30

Most convention centers give island booths the tallest height limit on the floor, commonly 20 to 25 feet, and allow hanging signs, the two tools that make a 30×30 visible from across a hall. But the freedom comes with strings attached. Hanging signs and rigged elements have their own height cap, and all rigging must be ordered through the venue or its exclusive provider, with weight limits and advance drawings. Double-deck structures go further: most shows require stamped engineering, load calculations, a permit, and an inspection before doors open, plus guardrails, egress, and ADA access to the upper level.

Compliance is the other constraint, and it’s easy to underestimate going in. A 30×30 exhibitor often plans the design first and the paperwork second, but rigging orders, engineering submittals, and permits carry deadlines weeks before the show. Fire-retardant materials, sprinkler clearance for enclosed ceilings, and venue-controlled electrical and labor all shape what can be built and who can build it. Planning around these from day one keeps the design intact and avoids costly changes at install.

Custom vs Rental

A purchased 30×30 booth typically pays for itself after about three shows. One or two shows, rental is usually the better financial call. Three or more, even spread across a year or more, and purchasing is usually worth it.

Custom fabrication works best on a 60-day timeline from order to show-ready. Highway 85 has taken on tighter timelines when needed, but it costs more and isn’t the default recommendation. Every booth is priced around what’s actually built into it. Get in touch for a quote based on your show, timeline, and the options above.
